    Q&A with Graduate Aslam Mohammed

Having recently completed Northline’s 2022 Graduate Program, Aslam shares what it’s like to be a graduate at Northline.

You previously said that you were most looking forward to working in Business Analytics. Has this turned out to be your favourite rotation or did another department surprise you?

I have always been very passionate about Analytics and receiving an opportunity to work in this department as part of the program was very exciting. It was my first time being exposed to the day-to-day tasks that a Business Analyst deals with. During my rotation in this department, the team were supportive and gave me a good base knowledge of integration, data sourcing and reports. This department is certainly my favourite.

Have you thought about what you might do once the program ends?

I was appointed the role of Business Analyst at the end of February, which I am very happy about! From the start of the program, I had hoped to work within this team.

If you could give a new graduate one piece of advice, what would it be?

It is a once in a lifetime chance to be able to work in all the different areas of the business and I would recommend that future graduates are open and grab as much knowledge as they can from each rotation.

How would you summarise Northline’s graduate program for those that are interested in applying?

Northline graduate program is certainly a great way for graduates to start their career. The best thing about this program is that you will know your strengths and weaknesses, and professionals across departments will always mentor you and guide you. It provides you with exposure to various departments in the business which eventually helps you in deciding your career.

What has been your most memorable moment during the program?

The most memorable moment during the program was receiving appreciation from a Business Analyst for the execution of task I was assigned. The task was to create a calculator in Excel, based on the requirements from the Operations Team in Brisbane. I considered this task to be the first step towards my Business Analytics career and wanted to do the best I could.

Aslam joined Northline’s Graduate Program in 2022, after working in an operational support role at Northline. We asked Aslam a few questions to see his progression on the program so far.

    What qualifications do you have?

I graduated with a Masters in Business Analytics.

What made you apply for the Northline Graduate Program?

After working with Northline for a while, I was keen to learn more about the business and industry. Northline’s Graduate Program provides a diversified learning experience by allowing graduates to rotate across most departments to gain a better understand of the business as a whole.

What do you hope to achieve during your time on Northline’s Graduate Program?

I hope to achieve personal and professional development by working with the experienced teams at Northline. I want to develop and exhibit my skills whilst on the Graduate Program, towards the company’s goal of being the first choice for logistics customers around the world.

What department are you looking forward to working in the most?

I have always been curious about analytics and looking forward to developing my analytical skills by working as an Analyst.

What has been your favourite moment at Northline, so far?

My favourite moment during the Graduate Program has to be receiving appreciation from Melbourne’s Branch Manager. This was for the first project I executed along with my team. The project was to rectify connote reports that were experiencing discrepancies. We resolved the issue through tool box meetings with various teams to streamline the whole process, so that the reports identified the correct information.

What are your plans for after the program?

My plan after the graduate program is to secure a position within the company and work towards Northline’s goal of being first choice for logistics customers.
