An update on the happenings within Northline’s International department
It has been a very busy and exciting quarter for Northline’s International Freight Management...
Read moreHaving joined Northline in 2006 as a Graduate and working through many departments such as Customer Service, Account Management and even in Operations as a Pickup & Delivery Driver, Charlie knows the business inside and out.
Starting the International department with just two team members, Charlie has seen the team shaped into what it is today.
I started working at Northline in 2006. In those days, I was a Graduate learning the ropes. From there, I transitioned into the Warehouse team as a Pick and Packer, loading trucks with pallets. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work in numerous departments, including moving to Darwin for two years to be a Pickup & Delivery Driver!
As the Operations Manager, I wear many hats. Some days I’m a Customs Broker, other days I’m in Sales and others I’m looking at import and export processes and procedures. The role can cover anything on any given day. Aside from that, I oversee the team to ensure they can do their jobs efficiently.
Watching the International department grow steadily over the last 15 years, from where it was in 2008 to where it is now, is truly spectacular.
We more or less started as a two-man band, Karl Heidenreich (now Sales Manager SA & National Project Logistics) as Sales and myself as Operations. To see our international team now across Australia is just great.
I would estimate that approximately 80% of our consignments are from China. Slowly but surely we’re starting to tap into the United States and European markets.
We have a really strong domestic network, which I think helps provide customers with confidence and security that we’re well-equipped to handle their freight movements.
In recent months, we’ve had some huge technology advancements which streamline the entire process for our customers. LogixBoard offers them end-to-end visibility and Freightify has innovated the quote process.
Further to that, the experience and expertise of our team, we’re a really solid unit with highly skilled Customs Brokers.
